Are You Afraid of the Dark?
"He reveals deep and hidden things, he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him." Daniel 2:22
I found this verse and a few things written down about it in a notebook the other day. I remember exactly when I wrote it. I was on vacation, sitting on the balcony of a cabin right in the middle of the mountains near Bryson City, North Carolina. I was watching the sun come up. (the sunrise makes it extra deep) I had just found out the week before that I hadn't gotten what I thought was my "dream job" so this verse stuck out to me.
The first part "He reveals deep and hidden things" How much of a relief is it to know God is able to reveal things to us that are beyond our understanding? That truth hit me hard as I was running in circles trying to figure out what I could have done better, or feeling like I had wasted so much time pursuing this "dream job". We could spend all the time in the world chasing after answers on our own but until we take the time to listen and hear from God, we might never get the full answer.
So many things have the opportunity to stand between us and what God is trying to show us. Probably the biggest of those being fear. The second half of the verse "he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him" Here's darkness, this unknown area where if we step out into on our own, who knows what's out there?
In Steven Furtick's book "Crash the Chatterbox", he says "You either kick fear out of your heart or it will keep you out of the places God has prepared for you."
That "darkness" is our fear sitting in front of us. It's a deep, hidden, mysterious place that we can't step into in our own strength. But when we let God be our light, we can push past all of that fear and into the truth and freedom He provides.
Our job is to trust in Him.
God's plan is better than anything we could ever come up with. Fear can't hold us back from that.
Ask when we don't know the answer.
This is easy for me, because most of the time I don't have any answers, so it all works out.
Have faith knowing he will show you everything you need to know.
Our faith requires us to believe in something even when we can't see it. What this verse in Daniel is saying is that God already sees it all for us!
